Yes, that’s right. It’s DMB time baby!  Three weeks from today, Dave Matthews Band will be in Raleigh at Walnut Creek Pavilion for the 2015 tour.   We have tickets, and CANNOT wait!  Dave is never a bad show.  Never!  Even when he plays a more mellow or subdued set list, it still rocks.  I can’t remember a show I didn’t like, and I’ve seen over 24 of them.  We went to last years show in Raleigh, and have seen them in several other states.  Front row, middle sections, acoustic shows, amphitheaters, stadiums and arenas. Never a bad show!

This year we are going with some good friends of ours, and looking forward to a great time. We are carpooling up to Raleigh together, staying at the same hotel, and then heading to the show together to tailgate and enjoy some DMB.   A few other friends will be joining us for some tailgating, so it will be a great time had by all.  DMB is such an awesome atmosphere.  If you’ve never been to a DMB show, I highly recommend it.  And this year will be similar to last year, where there is no opening act.  It is only DMB.  They play an acoustic set first, and then come back on for an electric set.  They may have special guests join them, but they don’t have a opening act.   They are their own opening act.  And they are AWESOME!

Eat Drink and Be Merry!!

So if you are in the Raleigh area on May 22, let me know and maybe we can all party together for a great evening of good friends and great music!

Who is your favorite band?  Are you a roadie?  Seen them more than once?

ASSERTIVE minus the ASS

Well, 2014 is quickly coming to a close. The Holidays are just about over, and what a week it’s been.  A great Christmas with my wife and boys.  We got a new trampoline for the boys, and they’ve already spent hours upon hours of jumping on it.  We ate lots of good food and watched most of our Christmas movies.  I got some great presents from the boys, those really thoughtful ones that I will remember forever.

With this being New Year’s Eve, we look back at what 2014 was.  And what a year it has been.   We completed our first full year here in Wilmington, NC.  The boys are doing well in school and sports.  Kelli completed the Boston Marathon and her first triathlon, a 1/2 iron distance event at the Beach2Battleship Triathlon.  We went to a Red Sox – Yankees game at Fenway Park.  I completed my first marathon, the Savannah Rock-n-Roll Marathon.  We started coaching a running group at the Middle School my 12 year old attends, and I’m implementing a new Watch D.O.G.S. program at the elementary school my 8 year old attends.  We attended a Dave Matthews Band concert.  We have been rather busy with all the training, kids sporting events, volunteering events, and just some small family vacations.

It has been a year of firsts, a year of some failures, and a year of some successes.   I’m sure everyone can relate to this, and you have all probably had your own successes and failures this year.  And with it being New Year’s Eve today, we turn our focus towards 2015.  What will it bring?   Will you make resolutions to work out more, eat less chocolate, drink less beer, be more of a community volunteer?  What will it be?

New Year's Resolutions

I have a thought on resolutions.  I have never really ever kept a resolution that I’ve made. I thought that I would, but come March or April, I usually forget what my resolution even was.   I think this year I will take a different approach, more of a goal setting mindset, or as a friend of mine is using, focusing on a keyword for the year.  There are lots of different things I want to do, but don’t want to write the list as a “resolution”.  Maybe resolutions work for some people, but not for me.  I want to enjoy life a little more, spend more time with family enjoying the things that makes us happy (not that we aren’t already happy as a family, just do more without worrying as much with others’ thoughts).  I want to get out of my comfort zone, reach outside of my “box” persay, and do different things.

I will use 2015 to do more things that I usually procrastinate on.  I plan to run more 1/2 marathons.  I plan to complete more projects around the house.  I will turn 40.  I need to communicate more, speak my mind instead of keeping it inside.  So my word is ASSERTIVE.   I will be more assertive at home, at work, in the community, speaking my mind.  I will not be a jerk about things, I’ll keep others thoughts and feelings in my mind when speaking and acting, but I need to spend this year also finding me, doing more for me and finding myself.

So my word is ASSERTIVE  (minus the “ASS”).

What is your word? What are your goals?  What will be your resolutions?

That was AWESOME!!

Dave Matthews Band concert.    Walnut Creek Amphitheater in Raleigh on Wednesday  night.  Absolutely awesome. Another great show of the 23 I’ve seen previously.  DMB puts on one hell of a show.

It probably helped that we hadn’t seen him live in 4 years.   Awesome!!  So my wife and I have a full week of no children and are doing whatever we can to act like we did when we first got married.  Our kids are with their grandparents this week, my parents, getting spoiled completely rotten.   Next week will be pure hell for my wife when they return.  It will be tough for me as well, but since I work all day and she stays home, she will have more time with them to fuss at the rules, the discipline, the structure, the cleaning up of toys, dishes, etc.  Something every 8 and 11 year old kid hates to do….chores and any thing other than playing.  We miss them A LOT, but understand they must have time with their grandparents as well.  And my wife and I need some time as well, to just enjoy each other and be together.  Football season starts Aug 1 for our 8 year old, and then school starts, and my wife and I are in training for marathons and half iron man triathlons, so after this week, our schedules are pretty much full until Christmas.  So, as I said before, we are doing whatever we can to take this week and just go out, go places we normally can’t go, do things we normally wouldn’t do.

So I’m new to this blogging thing. My wife blogs .  She gets really into it, and has met many people and made new friends.  So, I thought I would try it out.  I have lots of random things in my head.  I won’t have any real theme of what I’m posting. I’m an almost 40 year old father of 2 wonderful boys, husband of 15 years to an amazing woman.  She runs and runs and bikes and runs and swims and takes care of our house, kids, cats, dog and runs some more.  Oh, and did I mention, she runs?  I’m a huge Clemson fan, a huge RED SOX fan, a HUGE beer fan.  I drink it and I homebrew.  I love the outdoors, like hiking and the beach.   I love college football, baseball and whatever other college sports I can watch.  I’m looking forward to writing and reading and enjoying the blog world.

More to come on my life and adventures….
